Community Legal Services, Inc. of Philadelphia (CLS) is a non-profit public interest agency providing free civil legal services to low-income Philadelphia residents. As the largest provider of free civil legal services in the Philadelphia area, CLS is both locally and nationally renowned as a premier legal services provider dedicated to ensuring access to justice for all low-income individuals and communities. CLS has ten legal units covering a wide range of civil legal services. In addition, CLS has a robust Administration staff covering departments such as Finance, Development, Human Resources/Operations and IT.

CLS is seeking a part-time Accounting Clerk (approximately 20 hours per week) to join our Finance Department. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills and a high level of attention to detail. In this role, you will be responsible for processing payments and supporting the A/P Specialist, Billing & Grants Specialist, and the broader Finance team with various clerical tasks. This position offers flexible hours. Please see below for the key attributes and competencies we are seeking in a candidate:

Responsibilities:
  • Support reviewing A/P requests to ensure proper approvals.
  • Reinforce processing payment requests through accounting software.
  • Help prepare the positive pay report to confirm that checks have been completed.
  • Collect, organize, and distribute Finance department mail on a daily basis.
  • Backing A/R by scanning and filing documents, preparing deposits and bank visits.
  • Help prepare schedules that support financial audits.
  • Support all Finance Department personnel with clerical tasks.

Required Skills and Experience:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 1 year of experience in an accounting or finance-related position.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
  • Familiarity with accounting software.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Must be highly organized with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to manage and make progress on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Familiar with GAAP

Other Highly Preferred Skills and Experience:
  • Non-profit experience
  • Previous experience with Accounting SAGE and MIP software
  • Experience with SAP Concur Solutions
This position is based at CLS’s Center City office.

The minimum starting salary for this position will be $24 per hour, with the final offer being commensurate with the candidate's experience.
