Community Legal Services, Inc. of Philadelphia (CLS) is a non-profit public interest agency providing free civil legal services to low-income Philadelphia residents. As the largest provider of free civil legal services in the Philadelphia area, CLS is both locally and nationally renowned as a premier legal services provider dedicated to ensuring access to justice for all low-income individuals and communities. 

Community Legal Services (CLS) of Philadelphia is seeking an administrative coordinator in its Employment Unit located at the 1424 Chestnut Street office location. CLS’s mission is to fight poverty, challenge systems that perpetuate injustice and change lives through cutting-edge advocacy and exceptional legal representation.  CLS is recognized as one of the leading legal services programs in the country.  We provide high quality direct legal representation, engage in systemic policy advocacy with the goal of effectuating broad-based change, and conduct community education and outreach.    

Summary of Position: This position is for an administrative coordinator who would provide administrative and operational support to the Employment Unit. Key job responsibilities include:
  • Assisting advocates in managing paperwork, including copying, scanning, sending out notices, mailings, and faxing.
  • Ensuring that files meet compliance standards by assisting advocates with obtaining needed compliance documents like signed intake sheets and retainers and assisting with closing files.
  • Conducting basic client communications both orally and in writing, including opening and duplicating legal server files.
  • Attending and helping to coordinate community-based clinics and outreach events; helping to open clinic cases and process clinic paperwork on the back-end.
  • Scanning court files at the Criminal Justice Center and collect sealing and expungement orders from the court to disperse to unit advocates.
  • Providing back up IT support for the unit; assisting with virtual meetings, webinars, workshops, etc. 
  • Compiling and organizing resources for the unit, including training materials for new staff, sample letters and litigation documents, helpful contacts, etc.
  • Conducting other administrative work for the unit as needed.
CLS seeks applicants with the following qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Demonstrated ability to type 55 wpm.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, deadlines and priorities.
  • Fast learner and ability to adapt to and excel in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Background in coordinating trainings, outreach, or other community focused engagements.
  • Experience with relationship building and relationship management.
  • Abilities to speak Spanish or other languages is a plus.
  • Knowledge and skills in MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of basic office procedures and equipment (i.e., copier, scanner, photocopier).

Compensation: This is a full-time position covered by the collective bargaining agreement between CLS and the National Union of Hospital and Health Care Employees, AFL-CIO and its affiliate District 1199C. The current minimum starting salary is $47,390 for entry-level applicants, which increases with relevant years of experience and according to the provisions of the current collective bargaining agreement. CLS asks for a minimum two-year commitment from individuals who accept an offer of employment for a paralegal position.
